During the month of November, the home health care community recognizes National Home Care Month. This time is designated to honor the millions of nurses, home care aides, therapists and social workers who make such a remarkable difference in the lives of the patients and families that they serve.
Generally, home care services are appropriate when a person prefers to stay at home or is homebound but needs ongoing care.
Comprehensive services can be provided by healthcare professionals, home health aides and direct care staff under the direction of physician’s orders. The focus of such patient centered care includes prevention, recuperation and, where appropriate, an alternative to hospital or nursing facility care.
Patients receiving home care include those in need of at-home therapy and those requiring the assistance of a professional to treat chronic medical conditions, wound care following surgery and also individuals who may be homebound and require assistive service with their activities of daily living, such as feeding, bathing and other forms of self-care.
“I had the best experience with all my caregivers. So pleasant and knowledgeable and helpful. They answered all my questions. It was a joy. I left very comfortable. They were amazing. I couldn’t ask for better care. They really cared about my concerns. Very compassionate. So helpful. Thank you to each of them for their time, effort, and care!” So said an Anew Homecare client in response to a recent patient satisfaction survey. Another client commented, “Excellent help given by kind and compassionate agency. And a plus- the nurse, the PT, and the OT were fun to have helping me in my home.”
November is National Home Care Month, which celebrates the practice of home care and all the individuals who make it possible, from the patients who inspire the profession to the caregivers who serve them.
